Incredible Versatility, With Plenty of Comforts
Much like the early Expedition models, the 2016 Ford Expedition version one is large, muscular, and with clear pickup truck roots. Up front, the wide-set, front-facing quad-reflector headlamps with blackout treatment straddle the wide chrome grille that features horizontal slats. All 2016 Ford Expedition models have four doors plus the rear liftgate, however the Expedition MAX measures in at 376 millimeters longer than the standard Expedition. Chrome door handles and bodyside/wheel-lip moulding highlights the exterior, while a variety of aluminum wheel style choices range from 18- to 22-inches. Body-colour or polished steel running boards make it easier to get in and out of the cabin. Heated exterior mirrors are also very useful, in the case of snowy and icy conditions in the winter time. Exterior mirrors are available in black, body-colour, or chrome, depending on the trim level. Standard roof rails and available crossbars are perfect for skis, kayaks, snowboards, and other oversized cargo that you can't fit in the vehicle. Ford's ingenious power liftgate makes loading and unloading a breeze. Should you select the Platinum trim, it has unique satin-finished highlights on the liftgate and grille, along with PLATINUM badging on the exterior body.
With a bench seat equipped, the 2016 Ford Expedition has seating for eight, while swapping the bench out for a pair of bucket seats reduces the passenger seating to seven, although it comes with a little more passenger space. Leather is available, even though the Expedition comes standard with cloth, and trim ranges from soft touch plastic and metallic finishes up to woodgrain accents. Platinum trim vehicles have their own unique, luxury-tinged upholstery and trim, plus the PLATINUM logo is spread throughout the interior. Stowing the seating increases maximum cargo capacity to a very impressive 3,065 litres in the standard Expedition and 3,703 litres in the MAX. Ford's SYNC 3 system leads the infotainment category for the Expedition and it has an 8-inch colour LCD touchscreen located on the centre stack. The cutting-edge SYNC 3 adds an upgraded stereo system, along with an extra smart-charging USB port and voice recognition technology. GPS navigation provides clear maps and directions, while the available dual headrest DVD entertainment system will keep the rear-seated passengers entertained on longer journeys.
Impressive Power
The 2016 Ford Expedition features the 3.5-litre engine, a 6-speed transmission, and full-time Control Trac 4-Wheel Drive for class-leading towing and hauling. Towing capacity is 4,173 kilograms when properly equipped, while the Expedition also provides some of the best off-road abilities in the class.
